About PHANTHUM
PHANTHUM is an independent Belgian no-gi brand from Ostend, created by a cancer survivor whose treatment and recovery ended his plans to return to competition. The project began as another way to stay connected to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: designing equipment for the athletes who could still train and compete. The brand focuses on limited-edition rashguards, grappling shorts, and gi patches. Its early releases used anime-inspired artwork, while newer collections have developed a more distinct mix of Japanese graphic influence, motorsport references, hand-drawn illustration, and the brand’s scarred cat mascot, PAW. PHANTHUM says its drops are produced in limited batches and are not restocked after selling out. Current rashguards use dye-sublimated graphics, flatlock stitching, moisture-wicking fabric, breathable underarm panels, and anti-slip grippers. The product range is aimed primarily at adult no-gi practitioners and competitors rather than shoppers looking for a broad catalog of gis, kids’ equipment, or academy basics. The catalog includes gi patches, but PHANTHUM does not currently present itself as a full gi label or a family-focused equipment store. PHANTHUM remains a small founder-run operation without a large team or outside investors. The brand also supports emerging Belgian no-gi athletes competing at domestic and regional events. It is best suited to grapplers who want performance-focused no-gi gear with limited availability and a strong visual identity rather than plain, permanently stocked training apparel.
