About Shoyoroll

Shoyoroll is arguably the most iconic modern Jiu-Jitsu brand, founded in the USA but with global recognition. It is best known for its limited-edition gis, which often sell out within minutes of release, creating a culture of anticipation and exclusivity.

The brand has elevated the kimono from basic training gear into a collectible item, appealing to both athletes and enthusiasts who see BJJ apparel as part of identity and culture. Beyond gis, Shoyoroll also produces no-gi sets and lifestyle apparel, reinforcing its reputation as a lifestyle-driven label.

Collaborations with athletes, artists, and organizations have further expanded Shoyoroll’s reach, cementing its status as a pioneer in the evolution of BJJ branding. With its combination of high-quality products, limited releases, and strong cultural resonance, Shoyoroll remains a benchmark for how independent brands can redefine an industry.

Inverted gear. I’ve owned every gi. They’re comfortable and last. Some of mine are 5+ years old. It’s all I wear now after countless shoyoroll rips

Shoyoroll wazair is an awesome light weight gi. Very minimalist design, 100% cotton. Love mine. I think they’re $180.

A&P is/was the brain child of J.P, who did a lot the early run SYR designs for Bear. When they split, A&P stayed inhouse with SYR. So yes, they are exactly the same thing- don't know if it was originally supposed to be like this, but that is the way it is now. I love my SYR gis.

I have worn basically every gi company that I know of. I have killed 4 over my time.  In my opinion there are two gis out there; Origin and everything else.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good gis out there. Inverted, Scarmble, Kings, 93, Fuji are all decent.  That said, my two Origins have been my daily drivers for 5 years and show no signs of breaking down. Pretty much every time I wear either as soon as someone touches it they go, "Ooo...nice gi..." They really do just simply make the best gi.  100% made in the US too if that matters. Including spinning their own thread and weaving the fabric itself.  Dark little secret of the gi manufacturing world; while some may be cut and sewn in other places almost every gi company sources their fabric from 3 factories in Pakistan.  The only one I kinda shit on is Shoyoroll, not because they are bad but just because they are super overrated and over priced. You do a side by side comparison with a basic Fuji and they are fundamentally the same thing but the SR costs $200 more.  Also, if you go to the Origin factory you can get factory seconds for a huge discount and they will hemm your pants to length right there.

Favorite gi is the Isami double weave, I have like 4-5 of them. Runner up would be the older Koral MKM. I also like my older Shoyorolls, Atama Mundial 5 and 9, and datsusara hemp gis.

My favorite and most cherished Gi is my shoyorollxillest gi. Bought one to roll in and another still in its packaging. Apparently they go for a ton on the resell market now.
