I use a tatami jj club backpack. Lots of pockets, a pocket on the back that my laptop fits in, and a used kit pockets at the bottom so I can separate clean and dirty kit if I need to. I Usually go gym in the morning, store my gym and shower stuff in the bottom pocket, then go training after work.

Tatami gis are shit, if you do get them, go a size or 2 up. I had a perfectly sized fitting a2L, that shrunk down to a slightly 'roomy' a1.
Frankly the majority of bjj specific wear is over designed & over priced garbage. All the rash guards I've bought are basic general sport compression tops & they do the same exact thing as shoyochimp500 at about 40% of the cost

My tatami pants ripped in about 18 months, and it was a higher end gi that was a birthday present.
My stupid generic sanabul gi refuses to die. I still have the same one I bought 6 years ago. Finally gave up and just replaced it with a new one for the $60 since it was so faded... But it was otherwise perfectly fine.
Not saying Tatami isn't good. Just sharing my personal experience.

Yeah totally, whereas my hyperfly gi has been washed at 60 degrees and barely shrank at all.
My Tatami gis on the other were washed at 40 and shrank about 15-20%.
I've had to give away all of my Tatami gis, where as my hyperfly and 12 year old Venum gi are still going strong 😂

I literally have all 3 of these, Tatami is my go to.
Nova is a great first Gi. Was my first one, got battered on the mats and in the washing machine, could still wear it now if I wanted. Solid Gi.
The Elements is the best one, but that Hokori price is brilliant. Such a great summer Gi.

Tatami is fine. I'd go with them as they are half the price of some of the more premium gis.
They are good gis overall, and you will probably want to buy two or three gis early on as it's good to try a few different ones and it helps to have a few if you are training multiple times a week. Don't buy them all at once, just try one of those Tatami ones and then see how you like it.
I've had the nova and the super light from Tatami and they were both good gis.
The super lights are great for summer, and they dry really quickly after washing.
Just try and wash them on a cold wash and don't ever put them in the dryer.

All of my Tatami gis have shrunk considerably so just bare that in mind.
They are good gis for the price but they shrink a lot compared to other brands in my experience.

Tatami is the Toyota of Gis, affordable and reliable. All my Tatami Gis from over the years still hold up. If you’re in the US though, the new shipping and tariff sucks. Elite on Amazon is okay. Kingz is good and pretty affordable.

Tatami and Kano Kimonos. Both brands are good quality (Tatami is a little bit better regarding ultra lightweight). I buy only discount Tatamis and our Team has some kind of special agreement with Kano Kimonos so we get 20% extra discount.

Probably A2L but it can vary widely by brand. I have an A3L from Tatami that I can’t even wear it’s so tight and all my Flow A3Ls are perfect. Fuji is in between and now I just wear Flow because I’m not a typical size and it’s the only brand I know works

If you want a lightweight gi, I liked Progress Academy.
If you want something heavier and more rough, go with the cheapest option from Tatami. I have 2 of them, no complaints in 2 years of usage.
I wouldn't recommend wearing your old gi, unless you take the patches away.

For cheap but sufficiently strong for bjj, I've seen many many people recommend underarmor off Amazon, both here on reddit and in the gyms I've been to I've seen a bunch.
The best gear I've come across is Hayabusa and perhaps(?) surprisingly, Tatami! Their gear has lasted me ages despite poor laundering (hot water, dryer lol)

Can confirm my inverted Gis are so much more comfortable than my Tatami comp Gis are. I wear my inverted Gis to every class and save the Tatami for comp when IBJJF forces me to wear their special stuff

Really thin gis may not last you very long. I've not tried Gold but if I ever can train again I may - I qualify for their 35% discount and I'm only just over the height / weight chart on their A3H; if the legs actually fit right they'll be the first.
Anyway, Fuji Suparaito / Submit Everyone A5 top and A6 leggings was what I wore to my first tournament and it served me pretty well.
Thinnest I have currently would be a tie between a company called Performance Fight Gear (ebay seller) top or Tatami Original v2 top. Durability is about average - starting to wear out even though I mainly only used them when it was extremely hot.
Feel-wise, so far I'd say a gold weave from Inverted Gear, or Datsusara hemp. I only wear the tops because they only sell up to size A5, but they're probably the most comfortable I've found so far.
