you can dry the top and not the pants. also there used to be a few places you could order a top and pants of different sizes. i know i have an origin gi where i bought separate sizes.

Fix it AND buy an new gi.  If it starting break down you are going to end up with more tears.  Three years is a pretty decent run for a gi that seems to be your only one.  I have worn essentially every maker out there.  Personally I think Origin makes the best gis on the market but they are pricey.  Keep an eye on bjjhq.com for good deals. You can get 93 Brand Standard Issue for a good price and those are probably my favorite budget gi.  Inverted also makes a great gi that is sort of right in the middle price-wise. I think they are also running a pre-order deal on their plain ones right now.

I'm 5'11 with shorter legs, usually run an A4 jacket from Fuji but the pants tend to be too long so I'm normally in Origin pro pants I believe 34*28s (but I'll prob go 30" inseam next time I need some) *Edit to say: I have 4 different A4 gis from fugi 2 are pretty much perfect ones too small and ones like an A5 somehow... IDK if other manufacturers have that consistency issue too but just be aware if ordering from there that you might get an outlier

I hang dry ALWAYS, and my Origin shrunk anyway. Plus I got thicker. But my excuse is that it shrunk on its own.

Fuji probably makes the best gis for the money. I like the fit and they are well made. Most are around $130-170 iirc. Origin makes some nice high end gis and i have two. One of them is like 10 years old and although worn, it’s one of my favorite gis. Vanguard makes some neat ones but they sell out of many of them pretty fast.

I’ve had many brands of Gis over the years. Bought the light origin rip stop gi. Became the only gi I would wear. I would wash it every night after class and wear it the next day. It is by far the best gi I have ever had.

“Sickest” can mean a lot of things to a lot of ppl. Origin gis are really nice, with clean designs. some of vanguard’s gis are pretty neat, though I’m not into the denim looking ones really.

Dude they're all the same. If I could go back in time and redo BJJ the one thing that I'd do different is not buy stupid, expensive BJJ shit. I did not need a $400 Origin Gi, the $70 Sanabul was fine.

If you don’t need if for comp the origin summer gis are second to none for the summer heat. I train in FL. their comp gis aren’t bad either.

I know you said you want to stay inside a budget, but I’m going to throw this out anyways, Origin lets you mix and match gi tops/pants so you get the correct fit without sacrificing somewhere. Additionally, their pants are true to size, so you just pick whatever size your everyday pants are.

I love my Origin gis but none are comp legal. And since getting my black belt, I’ve not been a fan of black on black and the only Origin gis that I have that fit are black.

How is your Origin in hot weather? In Sydney we get 30+°C, sometimes 35 with moderate humidity. No a/c on the gym. Wearing my Origin felt like wearing a polofleece jumper. But it was so soft, and the pant’s belt was awesome. I own one Origin, a Path. (I think). And I was starting to think it might be counterfeit because it was so hot.

Origin's heavy use of polyester is pretty off-putting for me. But no doubt the craftsmanship and feel would be next level just wish they did more with 100% cotton.

Kingz has my current favorite stuff. I love Origin too but they are more pricey. Great company to support though. The more stuff I buy from them the more I find myself training in it.

I have origin and the difference is staggering when you pull an origin gi out of the washer compared to other gi’s. They are pretty much already dry while other gi’s tend to hold moisture.

Ehh, purely subjective. I’m personally not a fan of origin gis. Love their mission, however. To each their own. But imho, a gi is a gi. At some point, you’re just min maxing on marketing terms and company mumbo jumbo. Personally, I wear KuSakura slim fit judo gis for BJJ, and Adidas IJF for Judo.

This is definitely true in a way - Origin gi's are the only ones that are really different from any of the others in terms of material. They're not for everybody, some like them and some dont, but they're really the only ones that are different. W/the others the only real difference is slight differences in the sizing and how they fit.

I have worn basically every gi company that I know of. I have killed 4 over my time.  In my opinion there are two gis out there; Origin and everything else.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good gis out there. Inverted, Scarmble, Kings, 93, Fuji are all decent.  That said, my two Origins have been my daily drivers for 5 years and show no signs of breaking down. Pretty much every time I wear either as soon as someone touches it they go, "Ooo...nice gi..." They really do just simply make the best gi.  100% made in the US too if that matters. Including spinning their own thread and weaving the fabric itself.  Dark little secret of the gi manufacturing world; while some may be cut and sewn in other places almost every gi company sources their fabric from 3 factories in Pakistan.  The only one I kinda shit on is Shoyoroll, not because they are bad but just because they are super overrated and over priced. You do a side by side comparison with a basic Fuji and they are fundamentally the same thing but the SR costs $200 more.  Also, if you go to the Origin factory you can get factory seconds for a huge discount and they will hemm your pants to length right there.

My favorite is also an origin. I think it’s their mid series not the highest end ones. Jacket pills and pants fit like shit but it’s really soft and feels good to get choked in.

Origin by far. Feels tailored somehow. Jacket is A+. Pants are A-, very lightweight but not quite as good a fit as the jacket. I don't want to wear my other gis anymore...

I want to like Origin so much. By far the most expensive GI I own. But the gi fits weird, the pro pants fit weird and I hate the buckle thing. I also hate the piling on the higher end Gi line up, makes the fi look like shit. My favorite has been inverted gear. Their stuff has always fit me like a glove.

Personally a huge fan of the Kingz and Orgin, I think Kingz is marginally more affordable and may hold up a little longer, but Orgin has always had really good quality for the products i've purchased.
